Tutorial: Gentle Autumn

Oh my gosh, it's been years since I've actually written a tutorial!!  Please bear with me!  :-)

For this tutorial, you will need:

PSP.  I used PSP 9, but is compatible with other versions.  This tutorial was written for those with a working knowledge of PSP.
Tube of your choice (a sitting one is preferable).  I am using one by Laguna, which you can purchase from http://picsfordesign.com.  You must have a license to use this tube.
I am using an exclusive scrapkit by Jen's Sweet Temptations called Gentle Autumn, which you can get from The Taggers Lounge.

Mask: WSL_Mask254, which you can download from here.
Font of your choice. I used Amarillo, which you can download from dafont.com
No plugins required; Eye Candy Gradient Glow for text is optional.

Ok, here we go!  (Did I mention that it's been years since I've written a tutorial??!!)

Open a new transparent image, 700 x 700.
Open GAElement21 and past as a new layer. Move up and to the right of your canvas.  Duplicate. Flip horizontal.
Bring down and align with the top layer.  Highlight your top layer and merge down.
Duplicate this layer, drag down and align, and merge as before.
Duplicate this layer.  Mirror.  Use your deform tool (press K on your keyboard)and bring in both layers to make them meet in the middle until you have something like this:

Top layer, merge down.  I used my soften tool to soften the line down the middle a bit.

Open GAElement19.  Paste as a new layer on your canvas.  Move up and to the right corner of the background you just made.
Duplicate as many times as you like and arrange until you like it.  You should end up with something like this:

Merge all the brick layers together and add a slight drop shadow (I used 0, 0, 75, 7, #404040).
Now merge that layer with your background layer.  Use your deform tool (K) and stretch out this layer to fit your canvas.

Open your mask if it isn't opened in PSP already.  Apply your mask:  Layers>New Mask Layer>From Image, Source Luminance ticked, Invert mask data unchecked and scroll to the mask and click ok. Merge layer group.
Duplicate the masked layer and merge down.  Duplicate again.  On the bottom mask layer, add Gaussian Blur of 10. Highlight the top mask layer and change blend mode to Burn.

Now to start adding your other elements.  Don't forget to add your drop shadows as you go along -I used the same as above.

Open the bench (GAElement14) and paste as a new layer, move toward the lower left of your canvas. See my tag as a reference for placement of the elements.

Open the pumpkin (GAElement8) and place on the lower left bottom of the bench and resize.  I also rotated a bit.

Open GAElement12 and move down to the bottom of the bench.  Duplicate then mirror.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize and arrange her so that she's sitting on the bench.

**Most layers now will be placed behind the bench so you will need to drag under the bench layers.

Open the tree with leaves (GAElement15) and place on the left side of your canvas.  Optional: Open GAElement43 and GAElement44.  Resize and rotate as you like on the tree branches. (Sharpen if needed).

Open the owl (GAElement2).  Resize and place somewhere on the tree.

Open GAElement 39 and mirror.  Place to the upper right corner of you canvas. Resize slightly if desired.  (I also used my mask on this layer)

Open the lamp post (GAElement22) and place on the right of your canvas.  Make sure this layer is on top of the leafy branch layer you just placed.  (I duplicated, merged down this layer a few times)

Open the fountain (GAElement4) and past in front of the lamp post. Use your deform tool (K) and resize, then use your deform tool to stretch the fountain vertically.  Sharpen.

Highlight the top layer in your layer's palette and add your copyright and text.

Ok, we did it!!  Thank you for trying my tutorial!  Please share your creations with me, I'd love to show them off!

Autumn Canvas

AUTUMN CANVAS

This tutorial was created using PSP9, but is compatible with other versions.
You will need:
Free Scrapkit by Mololi, which you can download HERE - UPDATE: The blog I got the scrapkit from is no longer there.  You should be able to use any fall background.

Alpha from Dolly. You can download from her blog HERE or use your own, or a font of your choice
Tube of your choice.  I am using one by PinUpToons, whick you can purchase from CILM.
Plugin: Virtual Painter.  Get a free trial HERE
My supplies HERE, which include: mask by Chelle (http://www.weescotslass.co.uk/),
easel tubed by me, leaf animation (if you are the creator, please let me know so I can give proper credit), leaf graphic courtesy of stock xchng, and my wordart

Let's go!
Open up Paper 3 or 4 from the kit. (I used Paper 3). Shift-D to duplicate and close the original.  Resize using these settings:

Open up the bed of leaves (Leaf Fall) and resize 50%, but change Dimensions
to Percent and Resample using Bicubic.  Copy and paste as a new layer
on the paper you just resized.  Resize 90% (Resize all layers
UNchecked) 4 or 5 times.  Bring down to the bottom of your canvas.

Open the acorns.  Resize by 50%, then resize 50% again.  Copy and paste on
the leaves.  Resize in increments of 90% until you get them small
enough.  Place where you like, and duplicate if you want to place
more.  Add a subtle drop shadow.

Right click on the top layer in your layer palette and Merge All (Flatten).
Adjust>Softness>Soft Focus with these settings:

Layers>New Mask Layer>From Image and navigate to WSL_Mask3.  Source Luminance checked, Invert mask date UNchecked.

Merge group. Copy.
Open
a new transparent image, 650 x 650 and flood fill with white.  Paste
the masked layer onto your new canvas.  (You can close the other one
now.)  Resize 85%.
*(If your're using the same tube I am, but with the easel attached, you don't have to worry about this step.)
Copy the easel and paste as a new layer on your canvas.  Use your raster
deform tool and pull out the left middle node to widen it a bit.
Get your magic wand, feather 1, and click on the white part of the easel.
*(If you're using the PinUp tube with the easel attached, you will have to
hold down the shift key and click again to get the whole area selected).

New raster layer.

*Now, you can use the graphic of the leaves that I supplied (courtesy of
stock xchng), or you can make your own using some leaves from the kit,
or any other graphic of leaves that you like.
Get the graphic you're going to use, copy and paste into selection.  Ctrl-d to deselect.
Effects>Plugins>Virtual Painter and choose Watercolor.  Click the check to apply.  (You can
play around with the settings, depending on your graphic.)
Click the top layer in your layer palette, which should be the leaves you
just created and merge down.  Add a drop shadow to your easel and your
tube.
Copy the wordart and paste onto your canvas in the upper right corner.  You can colorize this if you wish.

Add your name with the alpha I used, your own alpha, or a font of your choice.

Add any other embellishments if you wish.

Add your copyright and watermark info.

To animate:
Click on the top of your tag and right click.  Copy merged.

Open Animation Shop and paste as a new animation.

Open the leaf animation in AS.  Click on the last frame and then click at
the top of the animation and choose Insert Frame>Empty.  We now
have 13 frames, so we need 13 frames of our tag.  Make sure Propagate
Paste is selected and hit the Duplicate button several times until you
have enough frames.  Go back and delete any extra frames so that we
only have 13.

Click on the leaf animation and go to Edit>Select, Edit>Copy.

Click the top of your tag.  Edit>Select All, Edit>Paste into selected
frame.  Position the animation somewhere near the middle at the top of
your tag.  (Just undo and paste again until you get it where you like)

Click on the very last frame and go to Animation>Frame Properties
and change to 250.
Thank you for doing my tutorial!  I would love to see your results :)

Another Autumn Stat

Just another Autumn stat I wanted to share.

Click on the screenshot to download.

Enjoy!

Fall Is Coming IM Stat

Here is a stat I recently made and thought I'd share it.  I can't believe I'm making Autumn things already lol.  It was almost 90 degrees here today and as I was riding down the road, I noticed leaves that are starting to turn already and some that have fallen.  I am always sad to see summer go but I do love fall!

Enjoy!
