Autumn Canvas

AUTUMN CANVAS

This tutorial was created using PSP9, but is compatible with other versions.
You will need:
Free Scrapkit by Mololi, which you can download HERE - UPDATE: The blog I got the scrapkit from is no longer there.  You should be able to use any fall background.

Alpha from Dolly. You can download from her blog HERE or use your own, or a font of your choice
Tube of your choice.  I am using one by PinUpToons, whick you can purchase from CILM.
Plugin: Virtual Painter.  Get a free trial HERE
My supplies HERE, which include: mask by Chelle (http://www.weescotslass.co.uk/),
easel tubed by me, leaf animation (if you are the creator, please let me know so I can give proper credit), leaf graphic courtesy of stock xchng, and my wordart

Let's go!
Open up Paper 3 or 4 from the kit. (I used Paper 3). Shift-D to duplicate and close the original.  Resize using these settings:

Open up the bed of leaves (Leaf Fall) and resize 50%, but change Dimensions
to Percent and Resample using Bicubic.  Copy and paste as a new layer
on the paper you just resized.  Resize 90% (Resize all layers
UNchecked) 4 or 5 times.  Bring down to the bottom of your canvas.

Open the acorns.  Resize by 50%, then resize 50% again.  Copy and paste on
the leaves.  Resize in increments of 90% until you get them small
enough.  Place where you like, and duplicate if you want to place
more.  Add a subtle drop shadow.

Right click on the top layer in your layer palette and Merge All (Flatten).
Adjust>Softness>Soft Focus with these settings:

Layers>New Mask Layer>From Image and navigate to WSL_Mask3.  Source Luminance checked, Invert mask date UNchecked.

Merge group. Copy.
Open
a new transparent image, 650 x 650 and flood fill with white.  Paste
the masked layer onto your new canvas.  (You can close the other one
now.)  Resize 85%.
*(If your're using the same tube I am, but with the easel attached, you don't have to worry about this step.)
Copy the easel and paste as a new layer on your canvas.  Use your raster
deform tool and pull out the left middle node to widen it a bit.
Get your magic wand, feather 1, and click on the white part of the easel.
*(If you're using the PinUp tube with the easel attached, you will have to
hold down the shift key and click again to get the whole area selected).

New raster layer.

*Now, you can use the graphic of the leaves that I supplied (courtesy of
stock xchng), or you can make your own using some leaves from the kit,
or any other graphic of leaves that you like.
Get the graphic you're going to use, copy and paste into selection.  Ctrl-d to deselect.
Effects>Plugins>Virtual Painter and choose Watercolor.  Click the check to apply.  (You can
play around with the settings, depending on your graphic.)
Click the top layer in your layer palette, which should be the leaves you
just created and merge down.  Add a drop shadow to your easel and your
tube.
Copy the wordart and paste onto your canvas in the upper right corner.  You can colorize this if you wish.

Add your name with the alpha I used, your own alpha, or a font of your choice.

Add any other embellishments if you wish.

Add your copyright and watermark info.

To animate:
Click on the top of your tag and right click.  Copy merged.

Open Animation Shop and paste as a new animation.

Open the leaf animation in AS.  Click on the last frame and then click at
the top of the animation and choose Insert Frame>Empty.  We now
have 13 frames, so we need 13 frames of our tag.  Make sure Propagate
Paste is selected and hit the Duplicate button several times until you
have enough frames.  Go back and delete any extra frames so that we
only have 13.

Click on the leaf animation and go to Edit>Select, Edit>Copy.

Click the top of your tag.  Edit>Select All, Edit>Paste into selected
frame.  Position the animation somewhere near the middle at the top of
your tag.  (Just undo and paste again until you get it where you like)

Click on the very last frame and go to Animation>Frame Properties
and change to 250.
Thank you for doing my tutorial!  I would love to see your results :)

O.M.G.!!  It's been almost two full years since I've posted anything on this blog! I am still having fun with PSP - I don't know if that's something I could ever give up, though I do have phases where I just lose my mojo and need a break.  I haven't written a tutorial in I don't know how long.  Most of the things I create now is for my favorite forum, The Tagger's Lounge and you can find my creations, and so many talented others, on The Tagger's Lounge BLOG.   Please join us!!
